At the Carnavalet Museum in Paris, Orange uses 3D technology to enhance history and teaching.

Lutetia 3D

“Lutèce 3D” (“Lutedia 3D”) is a 52-minute documentary co-produced by Orange and France 3 IDF Centre, and directed by Olivier Lemaître, a 3D graphic designer responsible for projects bringing together culture and new technologies. His film, aimed at the general public, rebuilds the remains of the Roman settlement of Lutetia in 21st century Paris, using 3D stereoscopic modeling.

The screenplay was the result of research undertaken since 2007 and interviews conducted with researchers, archeologists, and institutions: the Carnavalet Museum (Paris City Council), INRAP (French Institute of Preventive Archaeological Research), CNRS (French Scientific Research Center), the French Natural History Museum, the French Archeology Museum, the General Council of the Hauts-de-Seine region, the Dijon Archeological Museum, and the Samara Prehistoric Park.

The documentary is shown at the Carnavalet Museum along with two other films: a video tracing the origins of all the research documents (interviews, plans, etc.) and an 8-minute video made up of summary images providing a 3D-rendering of objects, monuments and interiors of the time.

This program, soon to be broadcast on Orange TV, is intended to promote the production of qualitative 3D programs created in partnership with a cultural institution, scientifically endorsing the archeological and historical content of the documentary.
