Orange and the Domaine National du Château de Versailles organization have already been working together for several years on the implementation of enhancement tools to be provided to visitors.
Versailles Gardens
Since July 2010, Orange and the Château de Versailles have offered visitors a new way to experience their visit to its gardens, thanks to the mobile multimedia app “Versailles Gardens,” allowing visitors to discover more about the gardens either while they are there or remotely.
The on-site visit includes two modules that are activated as soon as the visitor arrives at the Versailles Gardens themselves: geolocation allows visitors to automatically receive relevant context-based information relating to exactly where they are, as well as to access audiovisual content, while augmented reality allows a virtual window on the gardens to be opened.
Orange and the Château de Versailles have also developed a “virtual visit” for people wishing to prepare for their visit beforehand, or who are unable to get to the Versailles Gardens in person. This remote access offers video, audio and photo content, pinpointed on a map of the area.
The app features in the Top 5 of ‘Beaux-arts’ fine art magazine’s selection of the best museum apps in 2012. It is available from the App Store and Google Play.
Versailles live
By logging in to a dedicated web platform, classes can collectively embark on a remote guided tour of the site using an interactive digital whiteboard or projector, led by a guide from the National Museums at the Château.
During each session, the guide is filmed by a webcam and interacts with the whole class, moving the cameras installed at the Versailles estate in real time, and enhancing the visit thanks to video footage, musical excerpts and images present on the site.
As part of this unique system bringing together education, culture and very high speed broadband, students can unlock the secrets of Versailles in a collaborative, interactive and fun way.
