For 15 years Orange has been accompanying the Tour de France with an extensive range of technological support designed to fit the specifics of the competition (its length, its route and the weather conditions).

Orange supplies all the telecommunications solutions needed for the event to run smoothly and for media coverage around the world. For the 2012 edition, from 30 June to 22 July, over 21 stages, Orange will be demonstrating even greater technological prowess with:

  • Optic fibre networks at all the finishing lines (press room, technical area),
  • 2.3 gbps for the press and professionals during the whole event,
  • 5 Wi-Fi networks exclusively dedicated to the event for all the professional (organisers, journalists, television channels, photographers),
  • optimal quality for the transmission of sound and radio links on Codec IP and 3G,
  • instant supervision of any network malfunctions (SNMP, passive, local and remote),
  • difficult sites to service: installation of fibre on 20,000 volt electric pylons (La Planche des Belles Filles), transmission by Giga Ethernet radio beam (La Toussuire and Peyragudes),
  • giga Ethernet and FTTH technologies for the press and the media during the whole event,
  • high definition video-conference facilities thanks to a 20 mbps symmetrical bandwidth linking the interview bus on the finishing line with the press room,
  • integration of fully IP new generation multi-media technologies (BTIP SIP),
  • re-video-conference by capturing and broadcasting the spontaneous reactions of the riders before the protocol

Beyond the possibility that Orange has offered to follow the Tour de France 2012 on PC and mobile, Orange offered in this latest edition,  the official Tour de France application, accessible to all, in partnership with A.S.O – Amaury Sport Organisation – which provides coverage of Tour highlights on mobile and tablet.
