who we areIn early 2008, France Telecom-Orange created a R&D centre in Cairo, to reinforce the presence of the Group in Egypt, and more generally in the Africa, Middle East and Asia region (AMEA).
The Orange Labs in Cairo consists of a multi-disciplinary team of 40 engineers, researchers, ergonomists and scientists.
what we doThe main research and development work conducted by the Orange Labs in Cairo focuses on the following subjects:

m-payment and m-transactions, that are services adapted to the needs and constraints of the region;

voice, portals and multimedia services, in order to develop innovative and low-cost services based on voice, content and multimedia technologies for the AMEA region;

low-cost infrastructure, to analyze and optimize the total cost of infrastructure ownership, and develop Internet access and innovative solutions through the most suitable technologies;

open innovation and corporate social responsibility, to link up with universities, start-ups, SMEs, NGOs, and governments in emerging countries, to enhance the Group's capacity to identify the most relevant services, technologies, and partners, and strengthen our capacity to innovate, analyze and develop services that will support sustainable development in emerging countries;

development and qualification, on new services in pre-production environment, and per country, to ensure problem free deployment. It helps units to generate services prototypes and the associated qualification cycles for the services.
an integrated Orange LabsThe R&D centre in Cairo works in close collaboration with the local, national and regional ecosystems and has already developed partnerships with a number of leading universities and research organisations. In order to integrate this new Orange Labs into the local ecosystem, the R&D centre has been set up to the West of Cairo, in the "Smart Village" technology cluster, which is home to various companies from the IT and telecoms sector as well as various public organisations.
