Orange Labs in Spain 
In 2006, the group created a centre in Madrid and BarcelonaIt combines the skills, experience and assets of several well-established groups within the former France Telecom Spain and Amena which merged during 2006. The Orange Labs' mission is to innovate and develop value added services to enhance and support the Orange commercial portfolio. The lab works in close collaboration with the local Spain ecosystem, the business and technical teams of Orange Spain and benefits from the group's R&D global resources.

 

The R&D Spain centre employs more than 65 researchers and engineers educated in the best Spanish academic institutes and universities and skilled through their previous work at the Spanish group's departments and other companies.

 

The Orange Labs in Spain focuses its activities in specific areas, such as: development of portal tools and value added services, service innovation in the areas of home/office zone, home networking, location based services and video services & interaction.

 

These activities are carried out based on the existing skills in the former France Telecom España and Amena companies, not only in the fixed, mobile and internet areas,  but also in the convergence area.

In addition, the R&D Spain centre collaborates with other suppliers and international operators on  national and international R&D projects. Its key R&D activities are also copyright protected through the patents registered every year. It also disseminates its knowledge and opinions through the conferences it provides in national and international seminars and events as well as the publishing of magazine articles and press releases yearly.

These achievements are possible due to its partnerships with VAS/technology suppliers and entrepreneurs that have enabled the centre to prototype innovative services in the fixed, mobile, internet and convergent fields. Also, the collaboration with Spanish Universities and Research centres has allowed the centre to benefit from the Spanish research ecosystem favouring technology evolution scouting and knowledge transfer.
