who we areIn 2006, France Telecom-Orange created a R&D centre in Madrid and Barcelona.
The mission of the Orange Labs in Spain is to innovate and develop value-added services, to enhance and diversify the Group’s commercial portfolio. The Orange Labs works in close collaboration with the local Spain ecosystem and the business and technical teams of Orange Spain.
The R&D centre in Spain employs 54 researchers and engineers, educated in the best Spanish academic institutes and universities and skilled through their previous experience in the Spanish Group's departments and in other companies.
what we doThe Orange Labs focuses its activities on 3 main pillars : content management, multi- device experience (convergence) around the concept “Edit once - Public many” and customer experience. Besides, we are exploring new territories, for instance e-learning, to deliver a technical solution based on open source from simple 2G mobile devices.
This R&D centre in Spain has achieved several milestones, among which we can mention the launch of :

the SED (editorial system) used in Orange UK, Netherlands and Spain ;

TV services: IP TV and NEW TV portals have been launched, the new fiber portal Very High BrodBand (VHBB) will be launched in a few months ;

smart Metering: the first field trial in the Group with real customers where Orange is providing end-to-end service for utilities ;

Wikimedia, as an example of speed up innovation. With this project, Orange Spain has been able to launch a new channel integrating Wikimedia content, the reference for all the Group solutions ;

customer knowledge as optimisation of business processes and strong extension to the Social Media analysis.
