Orange has launched a literary award for internet users, the Orange Book
Award or
Prix Orange du Livre, presided over by Erik Orsenna. On a large scale for the first time, internet
users are invited to take part in the jury and award a literary prize.
a shared passion: books
From January to June, there will be various phases, with the selection of candidates then the awarding
of the prize by a jury made up of seven prominent figures and seven internet users:

From January 22: internet users will be able to register on
www.orange.fr/prix-orange-du-livre to post their comments on their favorite books with an interactive approach.
If they post at least three comments on three different books, and submit an application
letter, they may aspire to be part of the jury.

March 2: the jury will be complete, with the selection of seven internet users
from among those who have shown the best combination of motivation, writing quality
and their ability to motivate readers.

April 15: the jury will announce a shortlist of 30 books.

May 15: the five finalist books will be announced.

From May 18 to June 7: all the internet users will determine the winner by voting
online.

June 9: Erik Orsenna will announce the 2009 Prix du Livre Orange award winner,
who will receive a 15,000 euro prize.
at the heart of the operation: the internet
Orange is calling on the know-how and strength of its audience to support the
Award, ensuring a high level of visibility (18 million unique visitors per month
on the orange.fr portal).
The
www.orange.fr/prix-orange-du-livre site also represents the focal point for literary communities that appear from
time to time on the web, made up of book fans, authors and booksellers looking
to express their views, exchange information, compare ideas and opinions on books…Indeed,
internet users are invited to share what they have read and discover the recommendations
of other book fans, including the members of the jury.
Lastly, it is of course thanks to this site that internet users will be able
to participate in the Orange Book Award: on the one hand, applying to be part
of the jury, and on the other, taking part in the final selection of the winning
work through their votes.
The 2009 Orange Book Award will be given out on June 9, with a 15,000 euro prize
rewarding the winner, whose work will be digitized in e-reader format and recorded
as an audio book for extensive distribution.
Orange and books
The Orange Book Award further strengthens Orange's commitment in the world of
books.
Indeed, Orange has been sponsoring the Orange Prize for Fiction since it was
launched in 1996, rewarding female authors of fiction novels published in English
and in the UK.
Created in 2006, the Prix Clara, organized by Editions Héloïse d’Ormesson, rewards
the winners of a major competition for new writers open to adolescents under 17.
Orange has been supporting the Prix Clara since 2007 by communicating on it and
creating specific animations on zapzone.fr (dedicated Orange internet and mobile
portal for adolescents). Lastly, the Orange Foundation, which has been working
for over 20 years on health, disability, education and culture, has carried out
various actions in order to make reading more accessible, for instance for the
visually impaired in France.
