Capitalcom’s 4th Annual CSR Barometer ranks France Telecom-Orange among the Top 5 CAC 40 companies in terms of Corporate Social Responsibility. This Barometer measures informational documents published by all CAC 40 companies in 2010, and is based on a matrix of 60 CSR-related criteria.

6 major trends
Rapidly evolving CSR indicators: France Telecom-Orange is one of six groups whose CSR indicators have been certified with a “reasonable” level of assurance (the highest level of reliability).
The Group publishes an average of 7.8 environmental indicators and 2.7 social indicators with reasonable assurance.
France Telecom-Orange is also one of only 4 companies to attain the highest level of compliance with the GRI*A+)
More transparent communication: This year, several companies have reported CSR objectives that have not been met. Of these, 50% are environmental, while only 6% of the unmet objectives are social in nature. The Group as you will note, has met all of its CSR objectives.
CSR performance impacts executive bonuses: To date, France Telecom-Orange is the only Group to have outlined a social performance composite index, which is used to calculate the variable portion of the compensation of 800 executive-level members of France’s network leader.
This index combines, with equal weight, management indicators such as the level of absenteeism, and indicators taken from results of the social barometer conducted twice annually by the company among its employees.
Towards Social Governance: For several years, boards of directors have become increasingly open to CSR issues, specifically by creating “non-financial committees.”
France Telecom-Orange’s Governance and CSR Committee ensures that indicators that measure social performance and quality of service are identified.
Greater role for HR: The Capitalcom Barometer underscores the fact that HR and social policies are increasingly being incorporated into company strategy at the highest level, as witnessed by the widespread use of tools designed to listen to and consult with employees. At France Telecom-Orange, a social barometer was created in 2010 in the form of a semi-annual survey conducted by an outside firm to gauge employee satisfaction levels.
More employee shareholders: In CAC 40 companies, the number of employee shareholders (based on the proportion of capital held by employees) rose from 3.35% in 2010 to 3.88% in 2011, an increase of 15%. Still, employee shareholding levels remain variable between companies.
