From July 1 to December 31, 2008, in connection with the French Presidency of
the European Union, Orange is partnering the European Cultural Season, which will
be showcasing the cultures of the European Union’s 27 member states. Several hundred
events will be taking place in France and elsewhere around Europe to make this
Europe of creation and heritage accessible and attractive to as many people as
possible.
Orange, the main partner for the European Cultural Season, wanted, through this
commitment, to provide support for European creation, and more specifically the
cinema, vocal music and the digital arts, in line with its business and its corporate
citizenship policy.
As far as the cinema is concerned, Orange is partnering the projection cycle
"One century in Europe, One century of cinema" and the Salon Cinéditions room
at the Cinémathèque Française in July, as well as a number of other exceptional
events, such as the Tour de France of European film directors from July to December,
or the European four screen festival in November 2008.
In line with the Orange Foundation, the Group wanted to support musical projects
for the European Cultural Season, such as the “tandem” project co-produced by
France and Romania around the “Codex Caioni”, from August to December, the France-Slovakia
tandem around Hummel‘s opera “Mathilde de Guise” at the end of 2008, and an exceptional
concert to mark the end of the parliamentary session on December 16, 2008, in
Strasbourg, directed by Claire Gibault with the Bratislava Orchestra and over
150 children from different countries within the European Community.
Lastly, the Group is supporting the major celebration of digital arts, with the
“Images in the Night” exhibition, the closing event for the European Cultural
Season, which will be taking place from December 18 to 31, 2008, at the Grand
Palais in Paris.
