November 17, 2009 - In Santo Domingo, the Orange Foundation has been launched today in the presence of staff from Orange Dominican Republic, key local figures and various associations.
Over the past year, the France Telecom Orange Group, through Orange Dominican Republic, has been applying the principles of corporate social responsibility, which include corporate philanthropy, with dedication and enthusiasm. From now on, the new Orange Foundation will be coordinating and developing all of the corporate philanthropy actions.
The Orange Foundation in the Dominican Republic joins the network of 10 foundations that already exist within the Group: France, Spain, Poland, Slovakia, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Mali, Cameroon and very shortly Moldavia.
It is committed to making the world more accessible for individuals who are isolated due to a lack of education or sensory impairments. To help them, the Orange Foundation will be supporting actions enabling them to be more independent in their day-to-day lives, while facilitating their cultural and social development in the Dominican Republic.
The new foundation’s projects are in line with the corporate philanthropy policy mapped out by the Group, which is focused on three areas: health and disability, education and culture.
According to Jean-Marc Harion, Chairman of Orange Dominican Republic: “The Orange Foundation in the Dominican Republic is one of the components of our social responsibility, and will contribute to the development of Dominican society, with concrete actions in its areas for intervention”.
The first project supported by the new foundation was signed up at the time of the launch. This project, entitled “Casita Orange”, will tackle education for girls, with the Aide et Action association. Its aim is to guarantee access to the official education system for some 290 young girls who live in a district to the north of Santo Domingo and have to take on the roles of adults too often and too early.
The Orange Foundation is also going to coordinate and develop volunteer programs for staff onsite in line with the projects it supports.
