Orange is confirming its commitment to developing the information society in Spain, announcing new investments in fixed and mobile networks. Orange aims to be a pioneer for the launch of LTE fourth generation (4G) mobiles in Spain, with a commercial rollout planned in Valencia by the end of the year, followed by Barcelona in early 2012.
In addition, buying new frequencies and developing innovative projects will make it possible to deliver better quality services for its customers.
network renewal plan in placeIn 2010, Orange had already announced a two-year and 500 million euro investment to modernize its network, making it more flexible, robust and convergent (fixed and mobile), and therefore ready to offer LTE technology. By the end of this year, Orange will have around 5,000 stations able to use the latest multi-network technologies: 2G, EDGE, 3G or 1800 and 900, fully IP, and LTE-ready. Today, Orange customers in Saragossa, Valencia, Alicante, Murcia, the Canaries, Galicia and Biscay are already benefiting from the network's improved quality and coverage. In terms of environmental impacts, Orange has reduced energy consumption by almost 30% at these sites.
improved coverageIn addition to its mobile investments, the Group will be opening around 100 new facilities across the country between 2011 and 2012 in order to open up all the benefits of Orange's ADSL network to as many people as possible, while paving the way for the fiber market to develop. Following this rollout, Orange Spain will cover 70% of the Spanish population.
innovative applicationsA number of new applications have been successfully released: more specifically, in the transport sector (NFC services: contactless mobile technology), for management (urban waste control and route optimization), health (remote monitoring of chronic patients at Navarre university hospital, etc.), cloud computing, etc.
more stores and new jobsWith plans to open 235 points of sale, 1,000 new jobs will be created in time. Lastly, the Group is continuing to move forward with its investments to train up its teams in order to provide a better service for its customers.
