Since the beginning of 2010, people with impaired vision have the opportunity to be able to discover the pictures of the superb collection of the Museum of Silesia in Katowice. In the framework of the programme « Orange Académie », with the active support of the Fundacja Orange in Poland, the museum has just launched a visit schedule reserved for visually impaired young people, entitled "What is an image? ". The project aims to fill a gap with regards to such members of the public, since the great majority of them have never visited a museum before.

The visit is marked by stages of different activities allowing the children to become acquainted with the world of painting : to touch different types of canvases and brushes, to learn to distinguish smooth, sculpted or gilded frames, and to discover the different types of pictorial composition. An audio-guide of the pictures is also planned and the explanatory text can be enlarged or printed in Braille.

The pictures which are available in the form of photographs have been transformed into contours and transposed onto special paper which after heat treatment makes them appear in relief. The young people with impaired vision can also closely examine one of the reproductions which has been specially enlarged for them or use a magnifying glass to do so.

Lastly, due to a grant allocated by the Ministry of Culture and the Polish National Heritage Fund, the Museum of Silesia is in the process of developing a similar programme for visually impaired adults.

Fundacja Orange
In May 2009, the Foundation of Group TP changed its name and became Fundacja Orange.
Poland has thus joined the countries where support for the charitable works is conducted under Orange brand, such as France, Spain, Romania and other countries since then. Each sponsorship programme implemented in the countries where the Group is established should
correspond to sponsorship policy as defined (health-disability, education and culture) taking account of local needs. They are nevertheless united by a common mission : to allow everyone to communicate better, to address sensory and social isolation, promoting a more positive independence in daily and professional life and encouraging the enjoyment of culture.
