Orange, for the 11th year running, is an official supplier and partner for the Tour de France. For the 96th edition of this major race, the world’s best cyclists will be competing over 3,500 kilometers in 21 stages (with 7 mountain stages and 3 time trials).
Orange teams are both heading out in front of and following the event in order to cable and equip the entire route and ensure that audio and images can be broadcast between the starting village, the finishing line, the press rooms and the TV and radio centers.
To successfully meet this logistical and technical challenge, a team of 45 technicians, backed up by regional teams, is working day and night throughout the five countries which the Tour is passing through.
An opportunity for Orange to showcase several technological innovations such as fiber optic, HD video and even videoconferencing in the press areas.
GlobeCast is a France Télécom group subsidiary specialising in managing and carrying audiovisual content. It will deliver live images of the Tour de France on behalf of France Télévisions and Union Européenne de Radiodiffusion. At the finish line of each stage, GlobeCast will deploy six mobile satellite and terrestrial transmission stations, along with a co-ordinating reception truck. The system is capable of broadcasting up to 25 SD/HD video signals simultaneously and will provide exceptional race coverage.
Finally, once again, Orange customers will be able to follow this year's Tour de France in three ways, via their TVs, PCs and mobile phones.
