environment: Orange gives a cheque for 200,000 euros to WWF-France

3 February, 2010 - In March 2009, Orange launched 40 euros without renewing your mobile, an offer enabling customers who would like to keep their mobile for longer to receive a 40 euro cheque in exchange for their loyalty points. At the same time, Orange pays out 5 euros to WWF-France for each customer who chooses this offer.
Less than one year on from its launch, this offer has attracted some 40,000 customers. Orange is delighted with the success achieved by this offer, which is helping limit the wasting of natural resources and production of waste, and has been able to give WWF-France a cheque for 200,000 euros.

two years of partnership with WWF-France
For two years now, the WWF has been accompanying Orange’s projects and commitments in France relating to sustainable development. The WWF is making its expertise available to the carrier and supporting its social and environmental responsibility policy, while Orange is supporting the WWF in its various missions. Several operations have come about through this partnership, including:
The responsible use of paper: Orange offers its customers the possibility to opt for electronic billing, helping reduce its environmental footprint.
The introduction of environmental labels for mobile and fixed-line phones: Orange was the first carrier to launch this initiative in France, back in October 2008, in partnership with the WWF. Orange has also deployed the environmental labeling system in Spain, and plans to extend it to other countries where it is present, such as the UK and Switzerland.
 
global approach
This initiative is part of a global approach being carried out at Group level. Over the past 15 years or so, Orange has gradually put an environmental policy in place in most of the countries where it is present, focusing on three areas:
Developing innovative products and services which represent an alternative to travelling
Building awareness on environmental issues among its staff and customers
Operating as an exemplary business by reducing its own environmental impacts
