France
Telecom is a key player in R&D programs through various partnerships, at both
national level (RNRT, RNTL, RNTS) and European level (European Commission
framework program,
EUREKA,
EURESCOM).
France Telecom is one of the most active operators in line with the 6ème Programme
Cadre (
sixth
framework program),
with 35 contributions
retained, and has also been involved in the Agence pour l’Innovation
Industrielle (AII) (industrial innovation agency) initiatives, notably the
Quaero European search engine project and the Maxssim project for the rollout
of new SIM cards.
Moreover, through its involvement in European programs on information society
technologies, France Telecom's R&D not only contributes to the successful outcome
of work on major issues of the future but also acquires new skills and expertise.
These programmes raise the international profile of the Group and position it
as a driving force behind knowledge in Europe.
France Telecom was involved in numerous projects under the Sixth Framework Programme
for Technological Research and Development. It either leads or is a major partner
in ambitious integrated projects such as Beyond 3G, home audiovisual networks
and platforms, or broadband for everyone.
The group is also a member of European Technology Platforms (eMobility and NEM),
which bring together major industry players to define policy and joint initiatives.
