The scientific advisory board is a consultative body, composed of high-level scientists and technologists, attached to the Chairman of the Group. The structure, created in 1992, is renewed every third year.

The role of the scientific advisory board is to make recommendations to the Group Chairman about the strategy of France Telecom's research and to provide information concerning the way the scientific community perceives the evolution of France Télécom and the telecommunications sector.
The scientific advisory board examines evolutions in science and communication's technology. It identifies technological breakthroughs, in order to assess the implications for the telecommunication sector and to evaluate how the operator’s research takes them into account.
It expresses opinions on the relevance of the Group's research and development programs, on their quality and on any shortcomings relative to the operator's major options, assessing them in the context of the competitive environment and of the world’s standards.
It takes part in developing France Télécom's relationships with the scientific community at the European and global levels. It expresses opinions on the relevance and results of research programs carried out with that community.
