
The
scientific advisory board is a consultative body, formed of high-level scientific
people, close to the Chairman of the Group. The structure, created in 1992 and
is renewed every three years. The last renewal was in 2007.
The role of the advisory board is to make recommendations to the Group Chairman
about the strategy of France Telecom's R&D and provide information concerning
the way in which the scientific community perceives the evolution of France Télécom
and the telecommunications sector.
The scientific advisory board examines evolutions in science and communication's
technology. It identifies technological breakthroughs, to assess the implications
for the telecommunications sector and assesses how the operator takes them into
account.
It expresses opinions on the relevance of the Group's research and development
programmes, on their level and on any shortcomings relative to the operator's
major options, assessing them relative to the competition and world standards.
It takes part in developing France Télécom's relationships with the scientific
community on the European and global levels. It expresses opinions on the relevance
and results of research programmes carried out with that community. The scientific
advisory board also examines evolutions in science and communication's technology.
It endeavours to identify any technological breakthroughs, to assess their implications
for the telecommunications sector and, finally, to assess how the operator takes
them into account.
