Orange
steps up implementation of an environmental strategy dating to 1996, through
a partnership that fits in with an existing progress drive.
- WWF-France encourages leading telco Orange to minimize its ecological impact,
taking up increasingly environment-friendly services and promoting more sustainable
lifestyles.
Orange teams up with WWF: high-profile partnership for intensified commitment
The Orange-WWF partnership extends cooperation begun in 2005 on development of
electronic customer invoicing. Orange is now seeking to step up its sustainable
development initiative, improve public awareness of it, and elicit customer involvement.
The partnership is based on specific, measurable actions, such as evaluation
of the environmental performance of Orange products, recycling, eco-design of
shops and products, consumer and personnel education on ecologically sound practices,
and reduced paper consumption.
Expert partner
WWF brings Orange its scientific expertise and network mobilization capacity.
A joint Orange-WWF steering committee will meet quarterly to set progress milestones
for the partnership.
Evaluation of environmental performance of Orange landline and mobile products
Orange will harness WWF expertise to set up a commission of experts responsible
for evaluating product performance to relevant criteria such as energy consumption
and packaging constraints.
Working from this evaluation, Orange and WWF will pursue transparent education
of consumers and suppliers on the ecological footprint of products, and provide
consumer decision support.
Work currently under way with certain suppliers on product lifecycle and eco-design
issues will eventually be extended to all suppliers.
