Arcep confirms that Orange offers the best 3G/3G+ mobile coverage in metropolitan France

Over 87% of the population covered by 3G/3G+ at the end of 2009;
Orange also confirms its commitment of 98% of the population covered by 3G/3G+ by the end of 2011.
Orange, the leading 3G/3G+ mobile network
The Arcep report confirms that, with its 3G/3G+ mobile broadband network, Orange offers the best coverage in metropolitan France with more than 87% of the population covered at the end of 2009, which is 6 to 7 percentage points better than the other operators.
The measurements that Arcep carried out at 10 medium-sized urban centres confirm the reliability of Orange's 3G/3G+ coverage claims.
These results justify the investment Orange has put into deploying its 3G/3G+ coverage, to allow an additional 8 million people in 2009 to enjoy the ease of use and services provided by mobile broadband.
Orange accelerates the deployment of the 3G/3G+ mobile coverage
Already the leader in 2G coverage with 99.6% of the population covered in metropolitan France and 96% of the territory (Arcep report, August 2009), Orange intends to extend its 3G/3G+ coverage to virtually the entire population of metropolitan France by 2013:
- 91% of the population covered by the end of 2010
- 98% of the population covered by the end of 2011
- 3G/3G+ coverage equivalent to 2G coverage by the end of 2013
Orange is thus responding to the request and expectations of the public authorities and elected representatives that operators offer 3G/3G+ coverage to 98% of the population by the end of 2011.
Orange, the only operator to have rolled out EDGE technology broadly over its entire GSM coverage, intends to rely partly on UMTS 900 technology to deploy its 3G/3G+ network in the 900 MHz band. This will allow 3G/3G+ to be extended more quickly into less urban areas and allow Orange customers to benefit from the services offered on mobiles and 3G+ sticks: mobile internet, HD quality mobile TV, VoD, email, MMS, etc.
