innovation at the service of the 2010 Tour de France
Every year for more than 10 years, the France Telecom Orange Group has deployed a state-of-the-art technical system to manage communication and the transmission of images for the Tour de France.
for the 2010 edition, Orange is making the following available
A fibre optic network for all arrival sites (media rooms and technical area) with a speed of 155 Mbits for the press and professionals throughout the race
Five dedicated wireless networks at all times throughout the event
A high definition video-conference system with a speed of 8 Mbits
The transmission of radio relay links on Codec IP and 3G to facilitate and improve the transmission of sound broadcasts over radios
Instantaneous transmission of network malfunctions
A subsidiary of the France Télécom Orange Group specialized in the management and transmission of audiovisual content, GlobeCast provides the live repatriation of Tour de France images on behalf of France Télévisions and the European Broadcasting Union. GlobeCast therefore deploys a broad structure for each stage to guarantee exceptional coverage: a fleet of four mobile satellite transmission stations for signal distribution before the arrival line, a mobile satellite transmission station along the route, a microwave transmission truck and a nodal signal reception truck to receive close to 20 simultaneous video signals (in SD and HD) from the motorcycles, helicopters and intermediary points on the race operated by the SFP.
