France Telecom-Orange breaks into the TOP 5 in Capitalcom’s CSR ranking

Paris, April 06, 2011
Capitalcom’s 3rd annual CSR rankings rate France Telecom-Orange as one of the best five companies for Corporate Social Responsibility in the French CAC 40 stock-market index.
The ranking is based on information published by all CAC 40 groups in 2010, using a framework of sixty CSR-related criteria.

Orange awarded “best practice” for setting up its system for listening to employees
France Telecom-Orange was one of 17 Groups to integrate social criteria into their managers’ variable pay structure. The Group was awarded “best practice” for setting up its listening and dialogue system for employees, carrying out a survey on stress at work and signing four agreements including one dedicated to maintaining a positive work-life balance.

This recognition for actions in the field of CSR is an illustration of the Group's efforts to put the human factor back at the heart of its development, a priority for the New Social Contract which is part of Conquests 2015.

Orange, committed to CSR and committed to protecting the environment
On the subject of non-financial governance, the study notes at France Telecom-Orange:
20 fully documented and concrete non-financial aims;
qualified assurances from Statutory Auditors on 4 social and 13 environmental indicators;
creation of a non-financial “Governance and CSR” committee reporting to the Board of Directors;
existence of a CSR Department reporting to the Executive Board;
production of a dedicated CRS report.

The France Telecom-Orange CSR initiative applies the principles of the Global Compact as well as Standard AA1000, and is also recognised with a ranking in 2 ISR indices (stock market indices selecting companies on CSR criteria). For the second year in a row France Telecom-Orange has been ranked first in the Verdantix Leaders’ Quadrant.

This performance on Corporate Social Responsibility also reflects Orange’s commitments to protecting the environment, fixing concrete targets such as:
reducing CO2 emissions by 20% from 2006 to 2020;
reducing energy consumption by 15% from 2006 to 2020;
collecting and recycling one million mobile telephones in France each year by 2015.

Bruno Mettling, Executive Director for Human Resources at France Telecom-Orange, said: “This ranking provides recognition for the Group’s efforts in corporate and social responsibility over more than a year. It is the result of our “Conquests 2015” corporate project with its aim to put the human factor back at the heart of our organisation and institute a new social contract.”

Marc Fossier, Executive Director for CSR at France Telecom-Orange added: “This ranking pays due to the Group’s efforts on environmental responsibility in 2010. It confirms Orange’s commitment to a dynamic CSR policy.”
