gender equality in the workplace: France Telecom-Orange earns Gender Equality-European Standard certification

Paris, June 29, 2011
France Telecom-Orange was awarded Gender Equality-European Standard certification today at a ceremony held in the European Parliament in Brussels. This standard, created under the patronage of the European Commission by the Arborus Foundation, is Europe's first standard for gender equality in the workplace. It is intended to help create a common European culture of gender equality at work.

France Telecom-Orange is one of the first French companies to be certified. Several Group entities were recognised: the Group, for its ability to initiate and coordinate a policy at the European level, as well as Orange France, Orange Spain, Mobistar, and Orange Business Services together with its German and Italian subsidiaries for their initiatives in support of gender equality in the workplace.

This award follows an audit of the Group’s sites performed in February 2011. The audit evaluated a set of criteria related to gender equality in the workplace. It revealed a number of strong points in the Group gender equality policy in terms of strategy, social dialogue and the different entities' initiatives aimed at promoting diversity in their activities, as well as in terms of awareness raising, compensation practices and work-life balance.

A follow-up audit will be performed within 18 months, under the same conditions as the initial audit. The Group intends to get other subsidiaries involved in the process.

This certification rewards the Group for its work on gender equality in the workplace over the years. The Group's approach has been further strengthened by the commitments it made in the Conquests 2015 plan, including the objective to reach at least 35% women on its senior management committees by 2015, an objective which is part of evaluating senior managers. Deployment of Orange's Gender Equality in the Workplace policy is monitored by an ad hoc strategic committee led by Delphine Ernotte, Executive Vice President for Orange France, which includes several other members of the Executive Committee and representatives of the different geographical areas where Orange is present.

Brigitte Dumont, Deputy Director of Group Human Resources: "We are very proud to have obtained this certification which recognizes the coherence of our gender equality in the workplace policy and which reinforces our motivation to pursue our efforts right across our European footprint and in other countries across the world."

The Group's commitment to gender equality in the workplace is based on the belief that diversity at all levels and in all functions of the company is proof of economic success and the well-being of all of its employees. Its actions are centred on three themes: diversity in teams, especially in technical functions, women's access to high-level positions and work-life balance.
