Orange rewarded for its ‘Capital Filles’ programme at the "Company Action and Diversity Awards"

Paris, November 18, 2011

Orange was awarded the Jury’s Special Prize for its Capital Filles* programme at the third “Company Action and Diversity Awards," which were held on Wednesday 16 November at the French National Assembly. The award was presented to Brigitte Dumont, Assistant Director of Group Human Resources by the chairwoman of the jury, Rama Yade, ex-Minister and founder of the "Allons Enfants" Association.

Designed and developed at end 2010 in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, Capital Filles is a voluntary programme aimed at girls attending high schools that operate under municipal policies governing priority areas for education selected by the Education Offices. Orange offers them an opportunity to enter the world of work in the form of an apprenticeship agreement combining studies and work experience. Each girl taking part in the programme is accompanied by a female mentor from the Group, who offers advice and help in understanding the company.

At the start of the 2011 school year, the girls in the Capital Filles programme were among the 5,700 Orange apprenticeship agreements.

Brigitte Dumont declared: “We are proud to receive the award for this programme initiated by Orange, which is dear to our hearts. As a responsible company Orange has had a policy of actively supporting the integration of young people, and especially girls, for several years. Capital Filles makes it possible to offer new opportunities to girls from working class backgrounds and helps to build their self-esteem while creating a strong intergenerational bond thanks to the commitment of the mentors from Orange. We are also delighted with the interest shown by other big companies in the programme, companies that will soon be signing up to give it even more reach.”

The objective of the “Company Action and Diversity Awards” is to highlight innovative and daring initiatives that encourage diversity. They aim to promote concrete and innovative actions taken by companies. By providing media coverage for exemplary companies, the Awards raise the awareness of all companies about the importance of equal opportunities and diversity and hope to encourage new initiatives. The Awards have been supported since their inception in 2009 by the National Assembly and the Caisse des Dépôts Group. The award ceremony took place in the presence of Bernard Accoyer, President of the National Assembly.
