Orange launches Mobile Web Edition, a website to create and customize flashcodes in a few clicks

Paris, November 29, 2011

From November 30, the general public and professionals alike can create their 2D codes (flashcode* and QRcode*) on the website www.mobilewebedition.fr

Relatively unheard of by the public and companies a few years ago, 2D codes are now part of the everyday landscape for French people. Increasingly used in mobile marketing devices, today they are frequently found in the press, publishing, advertising, information campaigns and consumer products.
According to a survey by TNS-Sofres (October 2011), 89% of those questioned had already seen a flashcode*, 42% of them had already used one and 72% found them useful for obtaining information about the origin or use of a product.

The sharp increase in the number of smartphones in France and the large number of compatible terminals enabled the development of this technology. All you need to do is download one of the apps used to scan the flashcode* or QRcode* (http://tc3.fr) to your phone via the terminal’s camera in order to gain direct access to multimedia content (text, images, video, mobile website for instance), provided you have an internet connection.

With Mobile Web Edition, Orange allows the general public to discover the flashcode for personal use. From the www.mobilewebedition.fr site, users can create and customize their flashcode* or QRcode*  free of charge. They can then use the codes to provide access to a blog, a website, a video, an online photo album, their profile on social networking sites, or to create their own business card.

For professionals who want to advance in mobile marketing, Orange offers an “all-in-one” mobile internet solution. It comprises a mobile website creation and management tool, hosting and 2D code generation. Mobile Web Edition adapts multimedia content (text, image, video, etc.) to the specific requirements of smartphones. Professionals can thus easily create mobile marketing campaigns: sales promotions, product launches, information, event-based operations, etc.

*the QRcode is a two-dimensional barcode standard that can be identified thanks to the 3 small squares in its corners. Flashcode is a brand designating these two-dimensional codes.
