energy and climate change

We use energy for heating, cooling, lighting and running computer equipment in our shops, offices and call centres, and also across our network to power transmitters, switching centres and cooling systems. Most of this energy is electricity, often generated through the burning of fossil fuels, which contributes to climate change.

Energy efficiency is one of our group-wide programs. Our priority is to increase the quality and coverage of the data we collect on energy use and business travel. This will give us more consistent and comparable data and help us understand the true extent of our emissions and how to minimise them in order to contribute to a reduction in global climate change.

Our activities generate relatively limited quantities of greenhouse gases, linked mainly to energy consumption from telephone network infrastructures and buildings, as well as emissions from our vehicle fleet and business trips by our staff. However, at our level, we are determined to contribute to the objective of combatting climate change, which we see as a major environmental issue. We are supporting the “Factor 4 objectives”, aiming to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 4 by 2050. Objectives have been set to work towards this in various countries.
