The Auvergne Region won first prize in the European Commission 2007 Broadband Awards thanks to Point Visio-Public®, an innovation by Orange.
This award recognizes outstanding initiatives aimed at bridging the digital divide in rural areas. At the start of 2007, the European Commission launched a call for projects in order to select the leading initiatives within Europe, illustrating how broadband and information technologies are increasingly becoming a powerful driving force for reducing isolation and promoting economic and social development.
Out of the 163 projects put forward, 51 were selected in the end, including three in France. During two days of competition in Brussels on May 14 and 15, Point Visio-Public®, which has been deployed by Auvergne Region since July 2005, represented the most attractive project and won first prize. More than a technical innovation, the Point Visio-Public represents a social innovation contributing to the development of the region and its appeal. Today, people in Auvergne have 21 access points connected up to various public services. At the end of 2008, there will be 60.

Orange received the prize « Best Innovator » 2007 (october 2007)
Awarded by the strategy consulting firm A.T. Kearney, in partnership with Les Echos, this prize rewards the creation of the Orange Labs networks, which represents the new innovation chain within the Group, and more specifically the creation of the Technocentre. A further opportunity to showcase innovation within the Group, since it had already received this award in 2005.
Candidates were selected by a panel of judges including Mrs. Claudie Haigneré, former French Minister for Research, Director General of the European Space Agency, André Lévy-Lang, former Chairman of Paribas, Philippe Jurgensen, Chairman of Acam, Jean-Hervé Lorenzi, Chairman of the supervisory board of Compagnie Financière Edmond de Rothschild, Pascal Colombani, Senior Advisor at AT Kearney, and Patrick Lamm, editor-in-chief of Les Echos.
Around 700 businesses were examined based on various criteria, from the number of patents filed to the system for harnessing “innovative” employees, the R&D budget and partnerships with universities. Then, the selection focused on several parameters: strategy, organization and culture within the company, internal processes (generation of ideas, product development, launch), means and support, and lastly, earnings.

In the UK, Orange wins four stars from the European Foundation for Quality Management, an organization that enables European businesses to assess their performance.
Competing for the first time, the teams achieved one of the best results in the "Recognition of Excellence" category. A wonderful achievement, since only 10 companies received four stars this year, including BMW and Siemens. Taking part in this evaluation represents an important step, making it possible for us to recognize our best practices and identify our areas for improvement. The more we are sure of our processes, the better we will be able to meet our NExT objectives. It also represents a competitive advantage on our market, where our clients are looking for reliability and security. Congratulations to all the teams involved!

Orange awrad for the simplicity of the participative innovation system and the employees involvement
Louis Schweitzer, chairman of Renault's Board of Directors, gave the award to David Richard, head of transformation, performance and internal communications for Orange in France, and Xavier Dagras, head of the performance network, on November 28 in Paris during the fourth crossroads for participative innovation event (Carrefour de l’Innovation Participative).
The Carrefour de l’Innovation Participative event is organized by Innov'acteurs, an association with nearly 250 members. It is part of the 2007 performance crossroads cycle.
This award illustrates the successful moves to re-launch the participative innovation system at the start of 2007, covering some 85,000 Orange employees in France: between February and December 2007, with 10,000 members of staff putting more than 23,000 ideas forward, compared with 600 ideas for 2006. And close to 1,000 ideas are already being tested out.
This award goes first of all to Orange's employees, who, at all levels, from telephone advisers to technicians and managers, are proposing solutions to improve customer service, processes or even the information system. As well as for the 300 correspondents who, in each business unit, are coordinating staff innovation, and the network of 2,000 or so voluntary experts who are selecting and developing the various ideas in their areas of expertise.
The panel of judges singled out the idClic intranet tool for special praise. This has been developed by Orange to make it easier to enter ideas (authors can post them in just one click), as well as their evaluation and their development by the networks of experts.
They also highlighted the successful coordination, communication and recognition: a challenge event focused on simplicity, various events intended to get the best ideas shared with operational staff, or a roadmap for innovation. Aiming to recognize authors and experts. As well as to ensure the long-term viability of participative innovation within the company.
