Augmented reality in the real world
Augmented cities: augmented reality in the real world
Valérie Cottereau: “Augmented reality applications already represent more than 50% of our revenue. In the Rennes metropolitan area, we have just developed an open-access application for the general public about buildings and urban planning. Into this, we incorporate display interfaces, geolocation data and information on the building’s orientation, exposure to the sun, etc. – important information for a buyer.
Our next step in this digital revolution will be to develop an application that will allow the general public to give feedback on projects presented to them. This is collaborative augmented reality!”

David Nahon: the city is a space that is suitable for augmentation. It is divided into private spaces and public ones. The aim is to give everyone access to a goldmine of useful information at street level, providing a quality user experience. We envisage it being used in:
- the creative and cultural industries, the leisure industry
- commerce, e-commerce and m-commerce
- homes of the future
- cars of the future, for augmented driving.

We need detailed 3D models of cities, to simulate the flows of traffic, people, etc. We need to show the user what it involves and how it affects them.
Our first concrete project involves showcasing a building. This is the intended timescale:
Phase 1: proof of concept led by the city of Rennes
Phase 2: roll-out across the city of Rennes
Phase 3: worldwide roll-out with a product packaged and marketed by 3DS (Dassault Systèmes), whose ambition is to have its own store.
