Mobile 4G network: deployment is accelerating
Ten times faster than 3G+, the 4G mobile network offers you increased efficiency in navigating the mobile Internet. In order to allow you to benefit from this, Orange is accelerating the development of its 4G and 4G+ networks.
4G: bandwidth speed adapted to the mobile Internet
The 4th generation of mobile networks has succeeded 3G by improving its performance, with a theoretical maximum bandwidth speed of 75 or 150 Mbit/s. For you, this means navigation that is 10 times faster than with 3G+, including:
- instantaneously downloaded videos that can be watched with no interruptions,
- live sharing of photos on social networks,
- online gaming just like at home,
- ultra-smooth information searches.
Download times have been considerably reduced: less than 5 minutes for a 1.5 GB HD movie, less than one minute for a 350 MG series episode, less than 10 seconds for a 5 MB game...
Orange's 4G goals by 2018:
- providing accessibility to more than 98% of the population in metropolitan France
- coverage greater than 95% in all the Orange countries in Europe
Orange would like to offer mobile performance to as many people as possible. To this end, the Group is generating more than 15 billion euros of investments in its 4G and 4G+ networks during the period of 2015-2018. These investments have enabled the deployment of 17,946 4G antennas distributed in almost 3,900 towns throughout France and the use of fiber optics to link 4G facilities, which ensures the quality of the connection for all users, even during high traffic times.
As of June 30, 2016, 4G covered 22.7 million customers worldwide, with coverage reaching:
- 82% in France (Orange is number one here),
- 89% in Spain,
- 99% in Belgium,
- 95% in Poland,
- 95% in Moldavia.
In Africa and the Middle East, 4G was launched commercially in Botswana, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire Jordan, Liberia, Madagascar, Morocco, Mauritius, Senegal, and Tunisia.
4G+: aggregating frequencies to increase bandwidth speeds
With the multiplication of Internet uses through mobile, there are more and more streams to manage. In parallel with our 5G standardization work, Orange is deploying 4G+, which aggregates several 4G frequency bands to achieve a higher bandwidth speed. This device enhances 4G coverage for even greater navigational efficiency and increased download/upload speeds.
In France, 42 % of sites equipped with 4G also have 4G+.
