Networks regulation and high-speed coverage
High-speed networks are the backbones that carry more and more data-hungry digital services andare fundamental for European economic recovery and growth.
Rolling out new networks matching citizens’ and users’ capacity needs and expanding their coverage across the European Union are key challenges the EU is now facing, as acknowledged by the European Commission in its communication on a Digital Single Market. To secure a virtuous cycle of continuous network replacement and upgrades (as technology evolves all the time), it is essential to set up the right conditions to incentivise and support private investments in high-speed networks. Developing relevant tools is also important to address specific difficulties in some less dense areas.
The first paper proposes a vision for a new remodeled EU network regulation aligned with market realities and supporting the massive quantity of investment- Europe deserves.
The second paper discusses on the best approaches to achieve high-speed network coverage for all.
