The Orange purpose: the guiding principle for everything we do going forward

During the Shareholders’ Meeting on 19 May 2020, our purpose was integrated into the company’s bylaws. This is a very important step that formally sets out the meaning behind our business activity along with our social and environmental contribution.

Our mission is to ensure that digital services are well thought-out, made available and used in a more caring, inclusive and sustainable way in all areas of our business.

Orange does everything in its power to ensure people and organisations enjoy a more autonomous, secure digital life.

Through the engagement and expertise of the Group’s teams, Orange employs innovative technologies and services everywhere, and for everyone.

As a Group, we recognise our heritage and role in society, as well as the value in listening to our customers and stakeholders, and the importance of planning for the future.

When a company the size of Orange defines its purpose, it demonstrates a significant shift in the way economic agents see their role in global society. We hope Orange will continue to reinforce its position as a force for economic good and take on an active role as a major driver of digital transition in France, Europe and the world. Today, all businesses need to strongly define and demonstrate their commitment to society and the environment.

The Orange purpose, closely linked to Orange employees

The Orange purpose was carefully developed over the course of several months in 2019 and involved employees from across the business through more than 130,000 votes and 2,300 contributions. We also consulted internal and external stakeholders including employee representatives, Board members, NGOs, think-tanks, customers, authorities, sub-contractors and investors, building on the collaborative approach.

This cooperation has helped to make all Orange employees “Guardians of the purpose”.

A more responsible digital world

For Orange there are four key words: trust, proximity, service quality, and humanity, which set us apart in all the services we offer our customers, stakeholders and partners. We also want to defend our responsible vision of the digital world, choosing a different pathway from those proposed by other digital players.

We firmly believe that we have a responsibility to continue to grow and develop the digital world while making it a better place to be. As such we are committed to promoting digital equality through numerous concrete actions, carried out on a global level as well as on the ground locally. 

What is our purpose, at a glance?

In addition to our day-to-day business activity, it defines the long-term vision and fundamental role of our company within society. As an economic player of course, in order to create value. But also to contribute to the collective good. By incorporating our purpose into our bylaws, we are setting those words in stone to guide the company’s decisions and build trust with all stakeholders.
