This year, South Africa will the 8th Orange Social Venture Prize in Africa and the Middle East. It is an Orange innovation contest that rewards start-ups from Africa or the Middle East, using information and communication technologies with the aim of improving people's living conditions.
In 2017, it brought together nearly 1,200 projects, which is a record.
To all aspiring social entrepreneurs, we are hoping to see even even more of you all in 2018. The competition is open to all students, employees or entrepreneurs over 21 years old from Botswana, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Tunisia, Jordan, Liberia and Burkina Faso.
The awards ceremony will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, on the occasion of the big AfricaCom Awards night in November.
Since 2011, the Orange initiative has already supported some 20 projects, including "Manzer Partazer" and "MedTrucks", the winners of the years 2017 and 2016 respectively.
