Orange now has 1,000,000 fiber-optic customers in Spain
Orange now provides fiber optic to more than 7.4 million homes
Madrid, April 1, 2016 - Orange now has 1,000,000 fiber-optic customers in Spain and at the end of March, its fiber-optic network included more than 7.4 million homes. This footprint, which increased by more than 1.5 million homes in the last quarter of 2015, is the key that will allow the company to accelerate migration of its customers to Orange’s new FTTH network.
To continue along this growth path, Orange is making daily progress on its ambitious deployment project after finalizing the Jazztel acquisition. The goal of this project is to provide coverage to 14 million households by 2020. In four years, this will allow Orange to provide FTTH coverage to more than 80% of the communities in Spain with more than 20,000 inhabitants.
This plan, which will require a total investment of between EUR 1.5 and 1.7 billion, underscores the Orange Group’s commitment in our country. It will also consolidate Orange’s position in Spain, the country where the Group’s FTTH footprint is the largest, even ahead of France. Orange Spain is the alternative operator with the largest fiber-optic footprint in Europe.
This investment is on top of the EUR 1.5 billion Orange is investing in the 4G network deployment now in progress. This deployment allowed Orange to achieve coverage of 85% of the Spanish population by the end of 2015, and the goal is to achieve 95% by 2017.
