Spotlight on the cinema of the future
Whether science fiction or real vision, film has long put the future center stage. But what if today’s most astonishing innovations were on our side of the screen? Here’s an overview of the key innovations that will soon transform the cinema-going experience for film fans.
Moving to the beat of sensation and information
The cinema already entertains our eyes and ears: and it could soon thrill all of our 5 senses. If 3D glasses are now widespread, new equipment will soon burst onto the scene: laser projectors, VR headsets… and also the famous 4D.
How does it work?
Reclining immersive armchairs add an extra sensory dimension to the film experience with physical effects such as smells, wind and vibrations using diffusers, fans and spotlights. What better to delight thrill seekers!
For viewers who like information as much as sensation, high speed broadband in auditoriums will soon enable them to find out all the details of the film they’re watching via their smartphones. For budding film critics, the possibility to comment on all the action live is also being trialed.
Very high speed broadband makes an entrance
Equipping cinemas with high speed broadband enables faster speeds and higher film projection quality as well as higher Wi-Fi quality for cinema goers.
With this in mind, in December 2016, Les Cinémas Gaumont Pathé signed an agreement with Orange Business Services to connect their cinemas with Orange Business Ethernet Série 2. 50 out of 90 Gaumont and Pathé cinemas will firstly be connected in France. 90% of its auditoriums will receive a minimum of 500MB and a back-up connection of 100MB, with a connection of 100MB in areas where coverage is more limited
These speeds also enable new experiences such as live streaming, or live screenings of events happening outside the cinema in any city or country: theater, opera, series… thanks to technology the cinema becomes the place to be for multi-sensory experiences!
