The Total African Cup of Nations Egypt 2019, the queen of all football tournaments on the African continent, began on 21 July. Orange is the official sponsor for the sixth consecutive year, creating high levels of engagement with customers and wider football fan community so they can enjoy and share their universal and unifying passion for the beautiful game.
AFCON kicks off between 21 June and 19 July - 29 days of action in Egypt that will eventually crown the best football team in Africa.
If you’re a fan of the event, you will have noticed that for the first time in history it is taking place in summer rather than January as is traditional. The reason is to avoid penalising players who also represent teams playing in the European championships.
Also new this year is the size: 24 rather than 16 are competing which enables lesser-ranked nations such as Mauritania, Madagascar and Burundi to take part.
There are six host stadiums in Cairo, Alexandria, Ismailia and Suez, the largest of which is Cairo International, which can seat 70,000 spectators.
This year, teams from 11 Orange countries are competing for the trophy: Cameroon, Ivory Coast, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Egypt, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia.
