How Orange is boosting digital inclusion through sport

In the wake of the TotalEnergies CAF African Cup of Nations, Orange Africa and Middle East brought together several African nations for two competitions, underlining our role as a responsible operator committed to digital inclusion.

Orange Digital Center Champions and Goal for a Cause, competitions organized by Orange Africa and Middle East alongside the competition, are concrete examples of how we are helping the younger generation to learn digital skills to help them meet the challenges of their country's digital transformation.

Orange Digital Center Champions: celebrating the excellence of young developers from Africa and the Middle East

Orange Digital Center Champions was an exceptional showcase for the emerging talents of young IT developers. This unique competition, organized to resemble a soccer tournament and held in collaboration with the CodinGame platform, attracted the attention of over 1,200 students from 153 universities in 15 countries in Africa and the Middle East. From January 9 to 11, the 15 qualified national teams represented their countries. The overall winner, the team from MISA University (Madagascar), won a fully-equipped room for their school as well as a year's free training in new technologies, provided by Orange Digital Center.

Goal for a Cause: an in-house e-sport tournament for charity

At the same time, Orange Africa and Middle East also orchestrated the pan-African in-house e-sport tournament, Goal for a Cause, involving employees from 14 countries. The competition was designed to promote solidarity, with the number of goals scored determining the number of children that would receive coding sessions. Thanks to the 115 goals scored between January 15 and February 1, Orange has committed to sponsoring 115 children for coding sessions at Orange Digital Centers in Africa and the Middle East. The "Corporate MEA" team won the tournament on February 1 despite fierce competition. As a reward, it had the privilege of attending the final of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Abidjan.
