Innovation and research, the cornerstone of Orange’s vision

Under the theme “Unleash the Value”, Orange OpenTech 2025 has established itself as the go-to event for exploring how innovation can truly change the world. Beyond a tech showcase, the event reflects Orange’s ambition to turn innovation into concrete, sustainable impact for customers, partners, and society. Since his keynote in 2023, Bruno Zerbib has championed this approach, and the 2025 edition clearly illustrated it.

His opening talk, “Unlocking Value for Everyone: Can Innovation Still Serve Progress?”, emphasized the critical role of innovation in Orange’s strategy. For Zerbib, research, and especially fundamental science, is essential for understanding, anticipating, and mastering major technological changes. This allows Orange to stay ahead, ensuring innovation is not only cutting-edge but also remains practical and secure for everyone.

Bruno Zerbib on innovation

For Zerbib, innovation only matters if it drives progress – progress that goes beyond technology alone. It’s about solving real-world problems: protecting children, supporting the elderly, and making work more meaningful and engaging through AI.

Amid unprecedented technological change, he highlighted Orange’s responsibility as a major telecom player to create a future where innovation benefits everyone. At the heart of this approach is trust. In a world full of digital threats, technology only delivers real value when it strengthens trust between people, businesses, and communities. Aligned with its purpose, Orange is building trust through positive, useful experiences, responsible AI, practical security tools, and initiatives that promote digital literacy and safe online behavior.

We know that innovation – building AI models, starting new ventures – needs to be strategic. We have to chart a path for the next steps. It’s not about the next product or feature; it’s about shaping the future we believe in. At Orange, we believe innovation only has meaning if it serves progress.

Co-innovation, unlocking progress together

Turning scientific breakthroughs into real-world solutions requires a strong ecosystem. As Zerbib stressed, innovation at Orange is inherently collaborative and open. The Group partners with leading researchers, universities, and tech companies worldwide.

Collaborative research is key to accelerating progress and creating sovereign solutions. Take Mistral, Europe’s leading LLM provider, which has partnered with Orange since February 2025. Zerbib sees these partnerships as strategic levers, allowing teams to pool expertise and deliver responsible innovation that makes a meaningful impact, transforming competition into synergy for the greater good.
