A leading player in ultrafast mobile broadband

Orange is one of the world’s leading telecom operators and the European leader in fiber optics.

In France, we are carrying out an unprecedented transformation through the gradual transition from the copper network to fiber optics. Today, more than 42,5 million households are connectable to fiber. Fiber brings ultrafast broadband to communities, enabling millions of customers to embrace new ways of working and enjoying entertainment. In addition to its high performance and reliability, fiber is also more energy efficient.

Internationally, we have established ourselves as the European leader in fiber. 100 million households worldwide are now connectable. In Africa and the Middle East, we are also accelerating the rollout of fixed-line broadband. We cover nearly 5 million households with fiber optics, supported by sustained investments to meet rapidly growing demand for connectivity.

Orange is also developing dark fiber, a passive infrastructure marketed to wholesale players, hyperscalers, and the public sector for independent and flexible use. Among other benefits, it facilitates access to data centers for AI-generated traffic, including training and inference.

A leading player in ultrafast mobile broadband

The quality of our mobile network is our top priority. In 2025, it was named “Best Mobile Network in Mainland France” by Arcep for the 15th time. In Belgium, Luxembourg, Morocco, and Romania, the outstanding quality of our mobile network was also recognized in 2025 by performance-assessment firms including nPerf, Ookla, and LCC.

We invest in network modernization and coverage through the deployment of 4G and 5G. Our 4G and 5G networks serve 273 million mobile connections worldwide. We are rolling out 5G at a rapid pace in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, with the aim of achieving full coverage across these key markets. 8 countries in Europe and 7 countries in Africa and the Middle East already have 5G coverage.

Through our subsidiary TOTEM, we share infrastructure with other telecom operators to address the growing number of antennas required as 5G coverage expands. Did you know? 99% of intercontinental data traffic travels via submarine cables. We invest in 40 submarine cable systems and international consortia. We manage and monitor 450,000 km of fiber running through these underwater digital highways. This industrial asset, installed and maintained by Orange Marine and other ship operators, positions us as a key partner for major digital players, internet service providers, and cloud providers. We also invest in terrestrial cable landing infrastructure, including the strategic Marseille hub.

Outstanding subsea expertise

Our submarine operations are based on rare and recognized expertise in the installation, maintenance, and repair of infrastructure that is essential for the flow of data between continents. Through our two ship-operating companies, Orange Marine and Elettra Tlc, we hold a significant share of the market across the entire value chain, including surveys, engineering, installation, and repairs. This expertise is supported by a fleet of 7 cable-laying vessels and underwater equipment designed by our experts (ROV). We are investing in two new cable ships to renew our fleet and secure digital infrastructure.

Satellites for universal connectivity

Networks that adapt to new uses

We anticipate the growth of digital uses and the evolving requirements of the internet, the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, data centers, and cybersecurity. Artificial intelligence exponentially increases connectivity needs. We are adapting our networks to enable AI to connect, train, learn, and work in real time on innovative use cases.

Artificial Intelligence: a cornerstone of connectivity

Artificial intelligence is transforming how we operate our networks. With AI, we adjust network capacity in real time to meet demand, respond faster and more precisely, and anticipate outages. With AI, our networks continuously improve themselves.

Increasingly virtual networks

We are accelerating the automation and virtualization of network functions to optimize remote management and increase flexibility, efficiency, and responsiveness. The result: fewer outages, faster service restoration, and services that can be activated on demand with no lead time. Customers can adjust their bandwidth, switch to backup routes in real time, and consume connectivity “as a Service”. For example, Click, our digital interface, gives operators direct access to the Orange network and lets them manage their connectivity independently and in real time.

Frequently asked questions

Infrastructure refers to the technical resources that make connectivity possible: fiber optics, undersea cables, cell towers, technical facilities, central offices, routers, switches, data centers, electrical equipment, and the radio frequencies used for mobile communications. It is the material and technical "foundation."
Networks refer to the organized combination of infrastructure, software, and operating rules that enable the transport of communications and data between customers, businesses, the internet, and other operators.

Under the new “Trust the Future” strategic plan, our Group aims to continue managing its unique infrastructure assets to create value and increase monetization by marketing them to other operators through the wholesale market.
By continuously investing in and deploying state-of-the-art infrastructure and networks, we deliver innovative solutions that ensure access to essential services, even in the most challenging environments, helping to advance digital inclusion.
Our strategy relies on the complementarity of networks, where necessary.

The undersea cable market includes both shared infrastructure models and proprietary deployments. The majority of submarine cables are deployed through cooperation among multiple players, through proprietary projects, consortia, or joint ventures (JVs). This makes it possible to share costs, risks, and infrastructure management. Orange is able to independently fund certain strategic projects, including: The Kanawa cable connecting French Guiana to Martinique, or the Corsica-mainland France link.

Orange is one of the few telecommunications operators worldwide with its own fleet of cable ships (six cable ships and one survey vessel, representing 15% of the global fleet) to handle cable installation, maintenance, and repairs. We recently announced an investment in two new ships that will make Orange’s fleet one of the most modern in the world.

Orange does not own satellites, but works with satellite operators to access satellite services. Orange does, however, build and host gateways for satellite operators at its teleports. Orange plays a central role in meeting satellite operators’ interconnection requirements by providing the terrestrial and submarine segments that are essential to their connectivity.

Orange has more than 60 years of experience in satellite connectivity and is a key player in the industry. Through partnerships with satellite owners and operators, Orange provides its customers with satellite connectivity across more than 5,000 connected locations in over 100 countries. These capabilities complement terrestrial and submarine networks, enabling Orange to deliver resilient and reliable connectivity solutions.

Together, these complementary terrestrial, subsea, and satellite networks ensure resilience, security, and performance.

Satellite accounts for just 3% of the global connectivity market, yet it is essential for certain use cases. It serves as a strategic complement to other connectivity solutions, with important—and sometimes critical—use cases: connecting remote populations, maintaining connectivity during crises, and providing preventive relief solutions.

Network virtualization enables the delivery of more agile services, faster deployments, and greater reliability, ensuring an optimal customer experience. It also fosters strategic independence through control over key functions, thereby strengthening infrastructure resilience and security. Finally, this approach makes it easier to tailor services to customers’ specific needs while strengthening the secure management of sensitive data.

Orange connectivity solutions provide reliable, extensive coverage through owned and shared terrestrial, submarine, and satellite infrastructure networks, combined with connectivity services using advanced technologies. They provide enhanced security and responsive customer care to meet the needs of businesses, consumers, and connectivity providers. Orange also offers flexible, innovative solutions tailored to different industries and geographic markets.
