Why human rights matter at Orange

Respect for human rights concerns us all. These rights safeguard our dignity and protect us from discrimination. As a trusted digital actor operating across many countries, we have a clear responsibility: ensuring that our technologies and services uphold the rights and freedoms of every individual.
That means preventing harm by designing our products and services responsibly and inclusively, assessing the impacts of our activities, and providing avenues for remedy when people are affected.

5 concrete commitments

At Orange, we rely on major international frameworks (UN, OECD and ILO) to guide our approach. We keep a consistent global standard while adapting to local realities. New technologies can weaken human rights without proper safeguards, but we’re convinced they can be a powerful force for strengthening them too. So we follow the UN’s principles: Protect, Respect, Remedy, while going a step further by adding a fourth pillar: Connect.

Promoting digital citizenship for everyne

We stand for an open internet where everyone can speak freely. Our digital inclusion programs reach the people who need them most. We develop ethical, inclusive solutions designed around real user needs not just technological ambitions. Our goal is to ensure no one is left behind in today’s digital world.

Protecting privacy and freedom of expression

We do what we can to safeguard personal information and raise awareness about online risks. We actively defend the right to communicate freely and securely, wherever people live.

Tackling discrimination and advancing equal opportunity

We reject all forms of discrimination and work to ensure every individual can thrive at Orange. Equal opportunity isn’t a slogan; it’s how we operate, from everyday teamwork and collaboration to supporting social-economy enterprises in our value chain.

Ensuring workplace wellbeing

We ensure all our teams work in safe, healthy conditions across all countries where we operate. We expect the same from our suppliers and partners, helping prevent forced labor and child labor. Trust, honesty and respect form the foundation of all our relationships, ensuring we act with integrity and fight corruption and unfair practices.

A Reducing our environmental impact

We recognize the inseparable link between human rights and the environment. Our initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and scale up the circular economy help protect everyone’s right to live in a healthy environment. We also ensure that our infrastructure such as mobile sites meets health and safety standards for surrounding communities.

Turning commitments
into action

Our human rights efforts support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) and SDG 17 (Partnerships), where our impact is most significant. Our conviction is simple: no one should be left behind in the digital revolution. This belief translates into concrete initiatives in every country where we operate.
We don’t act alone. We work within coalitions to promote the importance of digital rights for all, including rights to health and safety, decent work and non-discrimination. We prioritize involving vulnerable communities in developing our solutions and encourage ongoing stakeholder dialogue.
With new regulations like the CSRD and upcoming CSDDD, we’re moving from “reporting what we do” to proving through action how we protect rights across our value chain.
